Multiple filament winding applications were developed by contract for Ameron. The systems provide automated control for the design and manufacturing of resin coated, fiberglass reinforced polymer winding systems for pipe and fittings. The applications are deployed in manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and world wide.

Each winding program allows the user to define parameters that control the physical properties required by the intended application of the pipe system.

Numerical control (NC) output is automatically generated from the design parameters with regard to constraints imposed by the simultaneous limitations of specific NC controls and the physical capabilities of the winding equipment.

The design parameters for the pipe systems and the control of the manufacturing process are defined in data entry spreadsheets as pattern records. Each record defines a portion of the overall construction:

• mandrel diameter
• helix angles
• lengths and other characteristics
• winding rpms and other nc control parameters
